Dear friends,

In order to bring the precious creations of Tagore and of Visva-Bharati to the world the university has taken up an ambitious E-Commerce initiatives in association with Brainware, the fastest growing IT company in Eastern India.
Under this project, Visva-Bharati will make its premier publications, CDs and reproduction of paintings available for sale through an e-commerce portal developed by Brainware and hosted at Brainware’s website (www.brainware-india.com).
The portal wiil be linked to Visva-Bharati’s official website www.visva-bharati.ac.in to facilitate access.
The project aims at giving an easy and better access to Visva-Bharati’s wide range of critically acclaimed products to national as well as international buyers. Initially, only books published by Visva-Bharati will be made available through the online store.
Now anybody can collect timeless classics like, Rabindra Rachanabali, Sanchaita, Galpaguchha, Geetabitan, Geetanjali or discerning works like Rabindra Jivani (by Prabhat Kumar Mookhopadhyaya), The God of R. N. Tagore (by Jose Chunkapura) anywhere anytime as they feel.
Later, the product catalogue will be upgraded to include paintings, sculptures, CDs, animated films and even personalised gift items specially designed by Visva-Bharati!
In all, the online store will be a cultural revelation of sorts to anyone who accesses the site. On the technical front, the web site is easily navigable with all the upgraded technologies one expects at a premier e-commerce portal. Buyers are able to select products of their choice from the online catalogue and add them to a virtual shopping cart. After checking out, they have to make online payments through the payment gateway integrated with the portal that accepts both credit card and net banking payments.
The products are then delivered to the buyers through courier. We invite everyone with interest in Tagore and Visva-Bharati to visit the above-mentioned web sites and enjoy an easy and safe buying experience.
Thank you.

I am marrying into a Bengali family and would like to learn to be able to speak to my in-laws so any help would be great as I have looked everywhere..

Do you know of any classes to learn Bangla for adults?
I have tried to learn from the books though think having an actual class would help.

Hello,
I am a year 12 student and I was really interested doing Bengali for my HSC as a Language Other Than English (LOTE) subject but due to Bangla not yet being recognized by the NSW Board of Studies I couldn't do so.
I would like to help children learn Bangla.
Please contact if any help is required.

I would appreciate if you could inform me of your activities on occasions.
Many thanks

Thanks for your email.
Currently Bangla Prosar Committee does not have any subscription-based email newsletters (though we are thinking of one).
So checking the site periodically is the only solution.

Dear Editor,
Sometimes I visit this site to get more information about the activities and progression of Bengali community in Australia, where I belong to. I highly appreciated your service to establish Bangla in every possible sphere.
Please take my homage for your work first.
This mail is about to show you something I felt incomplete in this site. I strongly believe we all should encourage each and every initiative taken by the people of our community. You put some address and listings of radio stations in Bangla at Sydney. I found this helpful for sure. But I realized you haven't put the name of another Bangla radio station operated from Sydney - RUPOSHI BANGLA BETAR. They broadcast their program on every Saturday 1-3 pm on 89.7 FM. I guess you missed this to put up.
I hope, in your next update, you would add this in your site. Again thanks for your effort for Bangla.
Thanking you.

Sorry about the omission.
It was inadvertent. Has been put on the right panel.
Thanks.

Akkhor Bangla Software is Unicode supported free Bangla software. Anyone can write Bangla easily with this software. It has phonetic Bangla writing support, customizable keyboard Bangla calendar and a lot of other features.
This software won several awards in Bangladesh. I have made this software free to encourage Bangla computing and give away all confusion to use Bangla in computer..
I would like to help this committee as it has also same type of goal. I hope your committee can also help me to make this software more popular to NRBs. It will really be great if you could inform the non-resident-Bangladeshi people to use this software to write in Bangla.
Please give me valuable suggestions to improve this software to increase Bangla computing. I am doing another project which is an Interactive Bangla Learning Software. My main target audience of this software are foreigners interested to learn Bangla and kids. As I know there is no good software to that serves this purpose I decided to make this one. What is the benefit if I did these projects but people who are keenly interested to use this softwares don't know about this?

Thanks,

Anwarus Salam

Hopefully more people will come to know about it from our site.
Thanks.

Dear Brother,

I would sincerely appreciate if you could provide me the approx. figure of Bangladeshi & Bengali (from West Bengal) population in NSW as well as in Australia.

If you are unable to find out the exact figure. That's fine. But I would greatly appreciate if you could direct me to a reliable source to discover - as it is very important for my research project.

As a matter of fact I have failed to collect this piece of information from any sources.

I therefore would appreciate your kind assistance in this regard.
I look forward to your prompt response.

Help! Im looking for Bengali/Bangla classes for adults, I'm having no luck what so ever.
I would realy like to learn. Can you please recommend someone or some institution that could help me please?

Meegan

Cannot readily think of an institution that teaches Bangla to adults in Australia. I'm afraid, probably there is none.
There are some links to material on learning Bangla on the home page of the site, if that's of any help. Do not know the situation with individual teachers though.
If there are any teachers who teach Bangla to adults, please let us know about you.

Hi I am Anand Rao.
I had lived for quite some time in Kolkata and have now been living in Sydney for the last twenty years.
I am interested in finding out when and where various bangla cultural events get hosted in Sydney.
Do you have a magazine or other means by which one can find out?

Also, I would like to know where I can find details of matrimonials within the bangla community either from those who have migrated from India (Kolkata) or those who are already residents here for a number of years?
Is there a magazine or other means by which I can find out ?
Appreciate your response in regards to this matter.

Regards
Anand Rao

The Community Events page on the site at http://www.banglaprosar.org.au/commevents.php should serve your first purpose.
I do not know the answer to the second question though.
If anybody happens to know the answer, can they please respond?

I am of the Australasian Bangalee Council.
We are desperately trying to correctly identify ourselves as Bangla language speakers (Bangalees).
So, the language is Bangla (not 'Bengali') and we are Bangalees (not Bengalees/Bangalis).
We are trying to retain our distinct identity and asking everyone to let us live with dignity.
That's all.

Dear All,

I am Atri Ray a Bengalee from India. I am working in a managerial position in a multinational at Mumbai.
Today while surfing the net I came across your fabulous site. I felt ecstatic and proud to see what my Bengalee brothers and sisters are doing in a far away distant land.
The site is an all encompassing one and caters to all that one seeks from a probashi site.
Its also very interesting to know our achievements and the key events taking place.
It was a pleasure knowing about the site, the work we are doing and the pride that we jointly and individually share being a Bengalee.

"Proud to be a Bengalee and proud of all of you".
Keep up the good work.

warm regards,

Atri Ray

Thanks a million to sort out the font issue. I have enjoyed very much reading the poems. I must applaud and praise the quality of these poets. Moreover, thanking the efforts of making this website meaningful. I, personally, do not live in Australia but am interested in it.
By the way, do you archive your old issues?

But we plan to add a Google-based search to the site very soon though.

just perused the 'live' website of the committee and was fascinated with the aims and mission statements that form part of its core charter. and this mail is a follow up based on my surfing.

allow me to introduce ourselves. we are the Ankur Bangla Project - collaborative effort of programmers, developers, graphic artists, linguists, technocrats from West Bengal and Bangladesh. our home page is at :: www.bengalinux.org. the Ankur Bangla Project was initiated with the objective of 'Empowering People' by making computing in Bangla possible. Computing in Bangla encapsulates all possible aspects of computing that can be made to undergo localisation to bridge the digital divide. a recent article in the leading english daily in West Bengal (The Telegraph) is available here and neatly lays out the roadmap for the future (URL maybe wrapped) :: http://www.telegraphindia.com/1031208/asp/business/story_2655609.asp

the Ankur Bangla Project aims to reach out to the members of the Bengali diaspora which form vibrant communities all over the world in order to create a completely collaborative platform that addresses and resolves issues on the very important concept of 'Bangla Computing'.

Well, have gone through some of the pages of this web site.
Really really good effort for such enthusiasm, however, did find out that before launching or publishing anything on the net, the words and contents should be properly edited and simplified.
